Google has introduced enhancements to its repair service, featuring updated manuals, a diagnostic function, and a novel safeguard mode for user data during repairs at specialized technical centers.

In August 2022, Google collaborated with the iFixit community to launch its self-repair initiative. The program provides genuine parts for the company’s mobile phones along with comprehensive guides accessible to both independent professional repairers and consumers.

In order to streamline the repair process, Google has unveiled the Pixel diagnostic application. This application conducts a thorough analysis of the brand’s mobile devices, identifying issues both prior to and following the repair procedure.

Google, in its official blog, stated that users can “easily verify if their phone is functioning correctly post-repair.” The company has redesigned the repair manuals to enhance user-friendliness.

The introduction of this diagnostic application aligns with Apple’s recent announcement of a similar diagnostic process. Apple’s system is designed to assess the performance and functionality of device components, pinpointing those in need of repair.

Additionally, Google has introduced a new repair mode for Pixel phones. When activated, this mode safeguards the user’s applications and data from unauthorized access when the device is sent for repair to a specialized technician. This innovative feature establishes a secure environment without requiring the user to create backups, delete data, or undergo data restoration, according to the technology company.

Samsung had previously unveiled a repair mode for Galaxy devices in August of the preceding year. The South Korean company aimed to protect user data when sending devices for repair, preventing technicians from accessing confidential information.
