Huawei has launched a new short-range wireless technology that aims to combine the benefits of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This technology provides greater speed, efficiency and significantly reduced latency. In addition, more than 300 companies and institutions have already joined the initiative.

NearLink key features include:

· 60% reduction in energy consumption
· 6x faster data transfer speed
· Latency reduced 30 times
· 7 dB anti-interference improvement for a more stable connection
· Double Coverage Distance
· Connect up to 10 times more devices

The technology will be integrated into a variety of devices, including consumer electronics such as phones, laptops, smart watches, smart home devices, electric vehicles and industrial equipment. NearLink will be part of Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4 operating system and has already been integrated into the company’s latest smartphone, the Mate 60.

According to the press release, the technology “brings together the joint efforts of more than 300 leading companies and institutions at home and abroad.” Most of the companies working with NearLink are located in China, including giants like Hisense, Honor, and Lenovo. International participants include Taiwanese Mediatek and French building materials manufacturer St. Gobain.

However, since Huawei is still on the US sanctions blacklist, NearLink will likely not extend to US devices. In turn, Apple has already introduced its ultra-wideband (UWB) technology in the form of the new U1 chip.
